About
Welcome to Class 9 of the Shoplifting & Theft Intervention Program – Developing a Personal Action Plan. Facilitated by Tera Chapman, this session focuses on turning awareness into action by creating a clear and practical plan for long-term change. In this class, participants will explore the importance of identifying personal triggers that lead to shoplifting, including emotional distress, financial pressure, social influence, and thrill-seeking behavior. By understanding these triggers, individuals can begin to take control of their responses and make more intentional decisions. The session will guide participants in developing healthier coping strategies to replace harmful behaviors. This includes learning how to manage stress, handle urges, and redirect impulses through positive alternatives. Participants will also learn techniques to interrupt the urge to steal in real time, such as pausing, removing themselves from high-risk situations, and focusing on long-term consequences. In addition, this class emphasizes the importance of goal setting and personal accountability. Participants will learn how to create realistic and effective goals using structured methods, while building daily habits that support positive change. The role of environment, support systems, and consistent routines will also be explored as key factors in maintaining progress. This session also highlights that change is a process, not perfection. Participants will learn how to respond to setbacks, adjust their plans, and continue moving forward without falling back into old patterns. By the end of this session, participants will have a personalized action plan designed to support self-control, responsibility, and long-term success, along with the tools needed to build a more stable and positive future.
