About
Welcome to Class 11 of the Shoplifting & Theft Intervention Program – Ethical Decision-Making & Personal Integrity. Facilitated by Tera Chapman, this session focuses on building the skills needed to make responsible, value-based decisions in everyday life. In this class, participants will explore the meaning of ethics and integrity, and how personal values influence choices. Integrity is defined as doing the right thing even when no one is watching, and consistent decisions help build trust, self-respect, and long-term stability. Participants will examine why people compromise their values, including stress, emotional impulses, peer influence, and the desire for quick gratification. The session highlights how emotions can influence decision-making and teaches participants how to pause, reflect, and respond with intention instead of reacting automatically. Tools such as the STOP method (Stop, Take a breath, Observe, Proceed) will be introduced to help manage pressure and make better choices in difficult moments. In addition, participants will learn how to create a personal code of ethics by identifying core values and applying them consistently. The importance of honesty, accountability, and keeping commitments will be emphasized as part of building strong character. This session also explores internal conflict, where short-term comfort competes with long-term values, and how choosing integrity strengthens confidence over time. By the end of this class, participants will understand how their decisions shape their future and will be better equipped to make ethical choices, act with integrity, and build a more stable and self-respecting life.
