About
Welcome to Class 5 of the Shoplifting & Theft Intervention Program – Developing Accountability & Responsibility. Facilitated by Tera Chapman, this session focuses on understanding what it truly means to take ownership of your actions and the role accountability plays in long-term change. In this class, we will explore the concept of personal and external accountability, helping participants recognize the difference between taking responsibility for their choices and facing the consequences that come from them. We will also examine common excuses and justifications that often prevent individuals from fully accepting responsibility and making meaningful changes. The session will guide participants in understanding how avoiding accountability can lead to repeated behaviors, while taking responsibility can support personal growth, self-respect, and better decision-making. We will also discuss the difference between guilt and shame, and how learning to face mistakes without self-judgment can create a healthier path forward. In addition, participants will learn practical steps for rebuilding trust and developing integrity, along with creating a personal accountability plan that includes identifying triggers, choosing alternative behaviors, and building support systems. By the end of this session, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to take responsibility for their actions, break patterns of avoidance, and begin building a more disciplined, honest, and accountable future.
