About
Welcome to Class 10 of the Shoplifting & Theft Intervention Program – Emotional and Behavioral Change. Facilitated by Tera Chapman, this session focuses on helping participants move beyond simply avoiding harmful behavior and begin transforming the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that drive it. In this class, participants will explore how shoplifting is often connected to underlying emotional patterns, such as stress, anger, sadness, boredom, or the need for relief. By understanding the emotional cycle—trigger, urge, temporary relief, and eventual guilt—individuals can begin to recognize how repeated behaviors are formed and maintained. The session emphasizes the importance of emotional awareness, teaching participants how to identify and understand their feelings before acting on impulse. Participants will learn how to pause, reflect, and make more intentional decisions rather than reacting automatically. In addition, this class introduces practical tools for change, including tracking emotional patterns, developing healthy coping strategies, and building an emotional toolkit to manage difficult moments. Techniques such as the emotional pause, positive self-talk, and replacing negative habits with healthier responses will be explored to support long-term behavioral change. Participants will also learn how to challenge negative thinking patterns, build emotional resilience, and create new habits that promote stability and self-control. The session highlights that lasting change comes from consistent effort, self-awareness, and the willingness to respond differently over time. By the end of this session, participants will have a deeper understanding of how emotions influence behavior, along with practical strategies to manage impulses, strengthen emotional control, and build a healthier, more balanced lifestyle focused on responsibility and long-term success.
